Value is a quality that avails toward life.
John Ruskin, Unto This Last, 1862
I’ve always been a daydreamer. I deploy an optimistic world view in pursuit of honest, futureproof design, strategically aimed to deradicalize the current culture rooted in hyper-individual, lustfully impulsive consumerism.
As the industry continues to propagate cliches regarding “sustainability” and “circular economy,” I believe industrial designers must take further steps in backing their design intent with rhetoric that clearly communicates the values motivating their design process in the context of their world view- only then can they inspire the population into action with a vision of an ecologically and socially sustainable future.
Industrial designers must engage in critical discussions assessing the contemporary commodity form and its influence on our society; we must recognize the growing contradictions present in the disparity of material conditions- doing so not on the basis of the profit motive, but instead oriented about the prioritization of egalitarian principles and the preservation of our natural world.
I enjoy tinkering on my project car in my free time, listening to music, reading, and especially love taking a weekend out to ski or mountain bike.
